Vaudeville comedian Cal Stewart (1856 – 1919) often told many banana peel jokes as his stage persona “Uncle Josh.” A 1903 recording titled “Uncle Josh in a Department Store” features many references to banana peel-laden sidewalks, as well as Stewart’s unmistakable laugh.
